The 1st Time Home Buyer

Buying a home can be an exciting yet stressful experience. Even more so if you are a first time home buyer. Being prepared is one of the best things you can do to make sure you get the home of your dreams. At The Mortgage Program for Costco Members, we are here to help you achieve that dream. Here are some quick tips to buying your first home:

Couple in new home
  • Pre-Approval — Beginning the home shopping experience with a pre-approval from a lender helps your offer stand out and helps demonstrate you’re able to obtain the financing necessary to purchase a home. It also gives you the confidence of knowing how much you can afford and the conditions necessary to close the loan. Getting pre-approved requires you to provide documentation of your assets, debts and income so the lender can complete a review and ensure those factors, as well as the condition of your credit and employment status meet lending requirements. Once you have the pre-approval in hand you can focus on finding the right home.
  • Size and Layout — Many first time buyers can get caught up in the excitement of home buying and overlook aspects of the home that they end up regretting later. Make sure you know what you want, what you need, and what you can live with. Remember, you are going to be in that home for a long time.
  • Think of the neighborhood — Research and decide what will meet your needs. Where is the nearest shopping? How much traffic or noise is there? Is it a good place for kids? These are just some of the things you need to think about before purchasing a home. Think both short AND long term.

Why the Mortgage Program?
